How to Make Breakfast Healthier
Experts say that we should never skip breakfast if we want to be healthier. Even if you are trying to lose weight, you should eat breakfast. Skipping breakfast will hurt you more than help you in the long run.
The problems arise when you take into account what breakfast is usually made up of. Some common breakfast foods include cereal, bagels, muffins, eggs, french toast, pancakes, hash browns, sausage, bacon, etc. Some of these could be healthy or they could be very unhealthy.
For example, oatmeal made with raisins and no suguar is high in fiber and can be a very healthy cereal whereas lucky charms is also a cereal but it is full of sugar and has nearly no nutritional value. Eggs are a great source of protein, but when you pile it with a stack of bacon and a sugary muffin, you’ve fallen out of the healthy zone.
Add fruits and Veggies
One great way to make a healthy breakfast is to add fruits and veggies. If you are making an omelet, add a bunch of veggies to the omelet and you will have a very nutritious meal. If you have to have a bowl of cereal, opt for regular cheerios and top with slices of fruit to add a little bit of sweet and lot of nutrition.
If you are making pancakes, instead of drowning them with syrup, have 1 or 2 small pancakes and top with lots of berries. Better yet, use whole grain flour to make the pancakes.
If you’re short on time, instead of grabbing a poptart, grab a piece of fruit or make a fruit smoothie.
When they told you not to skip breakfast, they most likely didn’t mean to eat a bunch of junk food. You need to eat a sensible breakfast just like every other meal. Having a healthy breakfast isn’t hard and it can really help to kick off a great day!
